Integrated solution for printing patient wristbands KREFELD/REINBEK, May 2009 - Mediaform Informationssysteme GmbH and TOSHIBA TEC Europe have agreed a strategic partnership for the sale of Armilla security patient wristbands and label printers in Germany. Mediaform patient wristbands identify patients, prevent identification mix-ups and through the provision of supplementary information improve the security of patient care. As part of an integrated solution, the wristbands are combined with Series B-EV4 desktop printers from TOSHIBA TEC, which print wristbands, as well as standard and special labels of differing shapes and materials directly from the hospital information system (KIS) – fast and uncomplicated. The patient wristbands are printed either in thermo-direct or thermo-transfer printing with a resolution of up to 300 dpi, so that the information can be reliably read in spite of the demands which are placed upon them in hospitals, including through contact with disinfectants. On account of the minimal support surface of less than 20 x 26 centimetres required, the printer can be accommodated in a very small space. "Armilla patient wristbands facilitate the unequivocal identification of newborn babies and patients who are unconscious, under anaesthetic, or suffering from dementia and who can therefore provide no personal details. In this way the wristbands help to prevent wrong treatment", explains Steffen Marienfeld, Sales Manager at Mediaform. "Together with our strategic partners, we offer an integral solution so that hospitals and other health-care facilities can concentrate on the medical care of their patients. With TOSHIBA TEC we have now gained a new partner to ensure the fast and simple printing of our patient wristbands." As part of the sales cooperation, Mediaform is expanding its product portfolio by high-performance printers from TOSHIBA TEC. These reliable industrial and desktop printers are available through Mediaform with immediate effect. The B-EV4 product series, with market-leading features and backed up by TOSHIBA TEC's highest manufacturing quality, form the focus. "Cost pressures in the health-care sector and increasing consolidation among clinics have resulted in personnel coming under time pressure and in a constantly rising number of processes being automated. However, the safety of patients must under no circumstances be put at risk by such developments", remarks Klaus Smets, Divisional Manager Auto-ID at TOSHIBA TEC. "With Mediaform we have been able to win over a national market leader as a sales partner for our new printers in order to support hospitals in the secure identification of their patients."
