Set for the Future: new TOSHIBA TEC retail solution for Rossmann

ROSSMANN drugstores opt for storeMate software, POS hardware and Services from TOSHIBA TEC

KREFELD, Germany, March 2010 – Germany’s drug store retailer ROSSMAN introduces TOSHIBA TEC storeMate into all its stores in Germany. The flexible, Windows-based retail software suite allows ROSSMANN to adapt to market requirements faster and more efficiently.

The innovative storeMate software suite in combination with TOSHIBA TEC’s TouchPOS hardware provide a new front and back-office store solution that is being rolled out by the TOSHIBA TEC Services teams since January 2010. The nationwide roll out of this new hardware and software solution at all 1,500 ROSSMANN stores is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

ROSSMANN, Germany’s third-largest drug store chain, today has above 1.500 outlets in Germany. With 17.000 drug store products, of which 8.000 are core products for perfume, cosmetics and health care of leading brands, it offers an exceptional wide portfolio. Moreover, ROSSMANN lays great emphasis to present a large product offering in environmentally friendly product as well as its in-house brand. ROSSMANN posted EUR 4.1 billion total turnover (including international operations) for 2009.

With the new intuitive user-friendly storeMate at the cashier’s fingertips making the cashier process easier, so the cashier can now pay more attention to the customer. At the same time, staff training is reduced to a minimum. During the software roll out all displays are simultaneously being replaced by TOSHIBA TEC TouchPOS systems. ROSSMANN also acquired TOSHIBA TEC WILLPOS B20 back-office servers to have a consistent operating platform with highly ruggedized systems in place for many years to come.

“Our main decision criterion for the new software solution was that it needs to be flexible in such a way that it seamlessly integrates changes of our management processes,” Achim Wellmann, IT Director at ROSSMANN said. “storeMate’s innovative architecture, its built-in flexibility and efficiencies have convinced us that we are set for today and for the future.”

“Another key criterion for us was the willingness and the subsequent deep involvement of TOSHIBA TEC to customize the EPOS solution according to our specifications. Our selection procedure has clearly shown that TOSHIBA TEC is the right choice for us. They offer hardware and software as well as after-sales services, including a nationwide roll out from a single source. We will profit from having TOSHIBA TEC as a single point of contact for all IT related questions of our new EPOS solution.”

For a seamless and efficient operation of the stores, ROSSMANN uses the Teris System Control and storeMate Central Office software components. This ensures the retailer to work on all store and system data at his central office at Burgwedel as well as to create advertising and marketing actions there and to distribute them to all POS systems in a simultaneous way. The system keeps a continuous check on the IT processes and the data streams to prevent any malfunctions or solve any issues before they become a problem.

TOSHIBA TEC’s Teris System Control allows ROSSMANN to get around possible POS downtime due to a problem with a hardware or software component. Teris System Control is a powerful System monitoring tool which permanently checks the mission-critical store processes, including the hardware and software platforms as well as the operating systems. The monitoring information is sent in real-time to head office to allow for a defect component to be repaired or replaced before the malfunction threatens to shut down the POS system.

“storeMate is a European retail software suite developed at the TOSHIBA TEC Centre of Competence in The Netherlands together with local expert teams,” Ulrich Hieber, Divisional Manager Retail at TOSHIBA TEC Germany said. “ROSSMANN’s choice was for a retail software suite with a proven track record and with upgrade capabilities and modules that are already operational in other countries. This is to ensure a fast and successful implementation whenever they are needed. We stand by our customers, always, wherever they need us.”
