Setting a new standard in serviceability – the modular TOSHIBA TEC WILLPOS B20 POS terminal

DUSSELDORF, February 2009 – TOSHIBA TEC Europe presented a world premiere with the new WILLPOS B20 modular WILLPOS terminal at EuroCIS 2009.

The TOSHIBA TEC WILLPOS B20 provides another powerful platform - based on industry standards - that enable retailers to leverage existing IT investments and accelerate business performance with flexibility and cost effectiveness. This flexibility helps store managers to create short-term value, while pursuing long-term growth.

The TOSHIBA TEC modular WILLPOS B20 offers next-generation features that improve customer service and reduce costs, including:

1. High Scalability Design

As part of an integrated customer-centric business strategy. the WILLPOS B20 has a powerful Intel ®Celeron® M processor 945GME on board that is the engine for a highly stable Point-of Sale platform. The WILLPOS B20 provides the flexibility and scalability to meet even the largest retailer's point-of-sale requirements.

  • The easy-to-use and intuitive user handling of the WILLPOS B20 increases productivity and facilitates employee training.
  • The WILLPOS B20 can be integrated in the store’s back-office operations as a dedicated POS server.
  • storeMate®, TOSHIBA TEC’s comprehensive suite of integrated retail applications is offered as an option for the WILLPOS B20. storeMate® helps improve the business performance by streamlining and integrating processes into a single cohesive enterprise resource and taking a best-practice approach to managing store information.
  • Connecting to a TOSHIBA TEC RFID-ready barcode printer will help to streamline the complete point-of-service experience.
  • The TOSHIBA TEC WILLPOS B20 provides a platform for stable business intelligence for managers charged with executing price markdowns, promotions and inventory management.

2. Delivering better insight with more reliability and durability

The WILLPOS B20 is at the core of every store operation – and when the Point of Sale is down, so is the store. Therefore, TOSHIBA TEC created an internal monitoring system and a sensor that is integrated with the microprocessor; the latter acts as a readily available application that does not require an upgrade of the operational system.

Both diagnostics systems work side by side and will report instantaneously any possible malfunction through:

  • remote maintenance by using an SNMP-based application to leverage real-time information that allows risk management and compliance
  • the self-diagnosis monitoring sensor connected with an status indicator on one of the outer panels of the WILLPOS B20.

As a result, companies can effectively drive operational excellence and accelerate innovation. The Total Cost of Ownership is set to decrease whilst improving the overall system stability.

3. The Bottom Line can be Green

TOSHIBA TEC continues to demonstrate its industry leadership by designing and building the WILLPOS B20 Point of Sale system to enhance the customer shopping experience throughout a highly productive and long lifecycle.

The legendary longevity of TOSHIBA TEC POS solutions long product have for many years now been instrumental in helping to reduce industrial waste. The WILLPOS B20, compliant with both the WEEE and the RoHS EU Directives, is another member of this successful ‘Green Family’.

Another way to minimize power consumption is to look at the ‘engine’ of the POS, the microprocessor: The lowest power consumption is realized when the largest number of transistors is inactive. The end goal of any low-power mode is to turn off as many transistor circuits as possible without compromising the day-to-day operation. The WILLPOS B20’s highly efficient CPU and adjacent chip set achieves this goal as part of the company’s objective to put sustainability in practice.

Moreover, combining the TOSHIBA TEC WILLPOS B20 with the TRST-A15 dual side ticket printer may save up to 45 percent on receipt paper.

4. Hands-on maintenance

Whether it is the engine board, the 2.5” SATA hard disk drive, the CD-R/RW or the DVD-R/RW at the front end, or the Power Supply and the I/O Block, the draw-out mechanism is designed to allow retail staff to handle basic maintenance tasks in seconds.

Introducing a diagnostics display that automatically alerts retail staff about seven possible irregularities during normal operations adds to the ease of use of this modular POS terminal.

Design is at the heart of each component’s parameters to reach the highest possible reliability score and limit the range of variance. The ST-B20 building blocks are designed so they can be assembled only in one way: they cannot be reversed, leaving no room for ambiguity.

Designed with a deep concern for efficiency, the TOSHIBA TEC WILLPOS B20 is destined for retailers looking to protect their ICT investments, minimize downtime and a clearly defined roadmap toward cost-efficient upgrade in the future.
